Great World Residences, formerly known as Great World Serviced Apartments, has recently revealed a brand revamp after undergoing a thorough renovation of its apartments and facilities.
The transformation process was led by the in-house design team of Great World Residences, which began upgrading its apartments in 2019 to cater to the evolving needs of business travellers.
According to Darren Cher, senior general manager of Great World Residences, “Business travel has changed and people now seek more than just a place to stay – they want a place to live, work and connect. We have updated everything from the interior design to the amenities, with a focus on creating a community rather than just a regular serviced apartment.”
In line with the new branding, the residents’ lounge has been transformed into a co-working space, complete with a self-service Starbucks kiosk. Being a part of the Great World mixed-use development, Great World Residences also houses a six-storey shopping mall, two 18-storey office towers, and a 35-storey serviced apartment tower.
The property offers 304 units, ranging from one-bedroom apartments sized at 800 sq ft to four-bedroom apartments measuring 2,200 sq ft. As a short-term serviced apartment complex, the minimum stay requirement is seven days per visit.
Aside from renovating all apartments, the revamp also included a refresh of the common facilities. Cher shared that the majority of the residents at Great World Residences are corporate clients from various industries like tech, banking and finance, maritime, and fast-moving consumer goods. Some of the long-term bookings even span one to two years.
“There has been a shift towards blended living where business and leisure travel intersect,” said Cher. “Since many of our residents stay for longer periods, they often travel with their families or even pets and need more than just a traditional hotel room.”
To cater to the needs of families, Great World Residences provides complimentary essentials for infant care such as highchairs, cots, and children’s cutlery. Additionally, selected rooms are designed to accommodate children, with single murphy beds that can convert into study desks for school work or used as an office space for tenants without children. Each unit also comes with free Wi-Fi.
Monthly rates for a two-bedroom apartment start from $10,800, while a three-bedroom unit starts at $13,800.
Cher believes that staying in a serviced apartment is a more affordable option compared to renting a condominium unit and also offers the conveniences of a condo, like having a kitchen. “Serviced living is no longer just an alternative to hotels; it is now the preferred choice for many, especially for long-term business travellers and those looking for more personalized and flexible living options.”
The property also takes advantage of retail synergies with the adjacent Great World shopping centre, offering its residents discounts at selected participating outlets. Both developments are owned by Allgreen Properties.
Situated in the prime River Valley area, Great World Residences enjoys easy access to shopping, dining, and entertainment options in nearby lifestyle enclaves such as Robertson Quay, Clarke Quay, and Tiong Bahru. It is also connected to the Great World MRT Station via an underground walkway.
As part of the company’s rebranding efforts, one of its goals is to establish Great World Residences as its flagship serviced apartment property and showcase its management team’s capabilities. “For the past 25 years, we have demonstrated our expertise in managing serviced residences. Why stop at just one property?” said Cher. “We are open to potential expansion opportunities in Singapore and Malaysia, whether through investment acquisitions or management contracts.”
However, Cher mentioned that the company is cautious about expanding into the long-term serviced apartment market as the minimum stay requirement of three months may limit potential tenants. He shared that the majority of their tenants, nearly 60%, stay for less than three months, and those with longer stays are usually due to unforeseen circumstances or delays that prevented them from committing to the minimum stay at the start of their visit.
